Alreadymade

12.10.24, 19:30 @ Berlinische Galerie

Join us for a special screening of “Alreadymade”, a film telling an alternative story of the artist and provocateur Marcel Duchamps famous artwork “Fountain”. The film questions the artists claim to the artwork and instead explores the possibility that  the lesser-known, flamboyant Dada artist Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven could be responsible for turning this much-discussed porcelain pisspot into art. Film-maker Visser tells the absurd story of this iconic work, with no certainty about whether the original still exists. A search for the truth and a reflection on what makes art art. The screening and following Q&A will fittingly take place at the Berlinische Galerie, a former glass warehouse that was specially converted for the gallery. As a hub where art intersects with art, we're thrilled to present a live performance by Valerie Renay, a French-Caribbean artist and musician who has been based in Berlin since 2006. Concerned with notions of identity, our place in society, our spiritual quest and everyday psychosis, Valerie Renay creates performance work and music holding the emotional body at its core.
