Petr Lom / Netherlands, Norway / 2024 / 88 min
Māori river guardian Ned Tapa takes a group of friends and family on a canoe trip down the Whanganui River in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The 320-kilometre-long river is the first in the world to be granted legal personhood. For over 150 years, the Whanganui iwi have been passionately fighting to protect their sacred lifeline. As they paddle through the picturesque landscape, the travellers discuss their deep, symbiotic connection with the river and its natural surroundings. They share inspiring ideas about how to work together to conserve environments and climates worldwide.

The Salts of the Earth reveals how three seemingly insignificant elements—phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium—are deeply intertwined with our history, environment, and future. From agriculture to geopolitics, it reveals the challenges posed by these three elements and how they shape our lives.
Mythological beings guide you through the rainforest and the memories, teachings, and stories of the Shipibo people in this virtual reality experience. Emilia Sánchez Chiquetti allows nature itself to become the storyteller. A reflection on how we coexist with nature.
