We invite you to the Lark - one of Berlin's most beautiful waterfront clubs - and take you back to the New York of the 70s and 80s.  

D.W. Young's film Uncropped takes you to the Big Apple and tells the story of photojournalist James Hamilton, who spent over four decades working as a photojournalist in New York for various newspapers. His photographs are world-renowned, and he has photographed celebrities from Patti Smith to Muhammad Ali, as well as war and civil unrest in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. Through the lens of his camera, we not only travel back in time to New York's past, but also into Hamilton's exciting everyday life in the photography and art scene. The film will be followed by a Q&A with director D.W. Young and James Hamilton himself.

To soak up the New York atmosphere and enjoy the beautiful location, we invite you to stay for a double DJ set by DJ INAT and Savy Sev. Let's get the night going!

D.W. Young

D.W. Young is a New York City filmmaker. His latest film "Uncropped" about Village Voice photographer James Hamilton, premiered at DOC NYC in 2023 and opened theatrically in 2024. His previous documentary, THE BOOKSELLERS, debuted at the New York Film Festival in 2019. He has directed other features and shorts, including the award-winning A HOLE IN A FENCE and THE HAPPY HOUSE. His films have screened at major festivals such as NYFF, SXSW, and DOC NYC.

James Hamilton

For over four decades working as a staff photographer for five different publications in New York City, James Hamilton captured some of the most remarkable people and events of the last half century.
