James Hamilton began his career as a painter and assistant to a fashion photographer before becoming a photographer himself. For over four decades, he worked as a photojournalist for various newspapers in New York. His photos have been published in Harper’s Bazaar, The Herald, The Village Voice, and The New York Observer, among others.
