Free Party: A Folk History
Aaron Trinder / United Kingdom / 2023 / 107 min
Director Aaron Trinder takes us back to the beginnings of the Free Party movement in England during the 1980s and 1990s. Far off from commercialization and official venues, the movement threw wild outdoor parties. Its members demanded the right to celebrate wherever, whenever, and however they wanted—and became police targets. In an era before digital surveillance, they managed to put on Castlemorton, the largest illegal festival in England, inspiring people around the world to not only organize parties but also stage protests.
