Collective intelligence at The Good Media Lab ignites innovation! From July 1-3, 2024, experts and filmmakers collaborated at Berlin's Atelier Gardens, crafting impactful strategies for documentary releases. Stay tuned for groundbreaking projects!
From 1 to 3 July, 2024, we invited six outstanding film projects to the inaugural The Good Media Lab at the storied Atelier Gardens, Berlin’s oldest film studio. Selected by an international jury, these projects collaborated with experts to develop goals and communication strategies aimed at creating sustainable impact. The Lab was a personal highlight, as participants formed a tight-knit group over the three days. The atmosphere, marked by humor, mutual support, and appreciation, greatly enriched the creative process and collaboration.
Impact and Distribution - A Perfect Match!
The Lab kicked off with Elisa May from "Das Kern des Ganzen," who delved into outreach strategies, while Enrico Dirksen from Piffl Medien explained distribution tactics and film marketing approaches. Paul Rieth guided participants to deeply consider their audiences and identify target groups. Collectively, ideas were brainstormed on the best ways to reach these groups. Rieth’s approach skillfully blended impact and marketing.
Navigating On- and Offline Worlds
Khadidja Benouataf from the Impact Social Club emphasized the power of film to drive social change, showcasing best-case examples of how impact strategies can positively affect a film’s reach and longevity. Ida Hausdorf shared insights from successful projects like "I Am Sophie Scholl" and "Not Just Celsius," demonstrating how a robust online presence can expand a film’s reach and spark profound discussions.
Collective Power
Day two featured intensive strategy development with guidance from industry experts such as Valentin Thurn (Producer and AG Dok), Fabian Wichlmann (Exit), Karin Kiehn (Olin Foundation), Ally Derks (Film Festival Expert), and Alexandra Wolf (Science Communication). These sessions allowed participants to refine their strategies with precision.
Looking Ahead to October...
The final day culminated in eager anticipation as participants prepared for The Good Media Pitch, scheduled to take place during the Dokumentale on October 15th. The projects will present their strategies, hoping to attract strong partners and supporters.
