Night Is Not Eternal
Nanfu Wang / United States, Cuba / 2024 / 92 min
For seven years, filmmaker Nanfu Wang follows Cuban activist Rosa María Payá in her relentless fight for democracy, human rights, and free elections. After the mysterious death of her father, Oswaldo Payá, who had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, she continues his battle from political exile in the United States. The film poignantly captures moments of hope, despair, and loneliness. Nanfu Wang intertwines Rosa María’s story with her own experiences in China, painting a deeply moving portrait of an unyielding struggle that knows no bounds.
