Black Box Diaries
Shiori Ito / Japan, United States / 2024 / 102 min
Journalist Shiori Ito always dreamed of telling other people’s stories through her work. But now she is telling her own: a story of trauma and abuse of power. Ito was raped by an influential older colleague and media-maker, and spent years fighting to get justice for herself, but also for another system. In her documentary, the Japanese film-maker impressively shows what it means when the justice system fails—and poses critical questions to a patriarchal society.
